Suggestions

Suggestions – For beginners new to the program or anyone looking to get more out of the program

  • Don’t drink and go to meetings.
  • Go to 90 meetings in 90 days. This will give you a foundation in the program and help you to meet others.
  • Sit up front at meetings which will help you to focus on the speaker and the message.
  • Arrive 20 minutes early and leave 20 minutes after meeting ends. This will give you the opportunity to meet people.
  • Raise your hand and share at every meeting even if you just say your name.
  • As others share, it’s important to identify with their feelings not necessarily the specifics of their story.
  • Get phone numbers of others in the program and use them.
  • Get a sponsor – Someone of the same sex with at least 1 year of continuous sobriety.
  • Call your sponsor every day even if nothing is bothering you.
  • Join a home group.
  • Read the big book (particularly the first 164 pages).
  • Work the 12 steps with your sponsor.
  • Do service – Get a commitment with your home group. After you have 90 days, take a commitment to speak at a meeting.
  • Try not to make any major changes in your life in the first year of sobriety (ie career change, moving, relationships).
  • Be honest with yourself and others.

Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of our program. When at meetings, please remember “What you hear here, who you see here, please let it stay here.”
